The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) was chosen as one of the provinces to host the 2022 Group of Twenty (G20) meeting; this is a very appropriate decision to revive the aura of Yogya tourism which has been paralyzed in the last three years due to the COVID pandemic. DIY Province has many potential villages that are quite promising to be developed as independent and superior tourist village destinations. One of them is Nglanggeran Village, one of the best tourist villages in the archipelago. Judging from the tourism potentials that have been owned as well as from tourism awareness and motivation from the community, it is hoped that it can restore the tourism heyday experienced by Nglanggeran Village before the pandemic; for that, a more mature tourism management plan is needed, especially in raising some of Nglanggeran’s tourism potential, which has not been fully managed. Currently, tourist points are still developing in the eastern part, especially Nglanggeran Wetan Hamlet, which is already known for its attractions such as Nglanggeran Dew, Ancient Volcano, and Griya Chocolate, even though other areas also have potential that is no less interesting but still requires intensive development.

In an effort, the three institutions collaborate to realize sustainable tourism development plans, namely the community managing the Ngelaggeran Tourism Village, the Indecon NGO, and the Faculty of Tourism, Pancasila University. This Cooperation Program is in the form of mentoring and fostering human resources, which is also in line with the implementation of the UP Tourism MBKM study program.

On Thursday, August 18, 2022, a presentation and discussion activity was held as a follow-up to the activities that have been carried out to increase overall tourism for all hamlet locations in Nglanggeran Village. The event was opened by the Head of Kalurahan, Mr Widada, which was also attended by representatives of the three institutions, including Mr Sugeng as the driver and manager of the Nglanggeran Tourism village, and Mr Mursidi as Chair of Pokdarwis, Mr Ari, the director of Indecon along with Mrs Wita and the team, and the Faculty of Tourism. Pancasila University was attended by the Chair of the PPM, Mrs Yustisia Parfatima Mbulu, the Chair of the Center for Tourism Research and Development (PKP2), Mrs Sarojini Imran and students of the UP Tourism Faculty, as well as students from other universities. The guests consisted of civil servants, BumDes, representatives from BBJ, heads of RT, RW, and PKK, and attendees from other community representatives to listen to the presentation of the results of the analysis of tourism potential from the success team for the community. The success team generally consists of young village movers accompanied by the Indecon team and students undergoing the street vendors program. The analysis includes the tourism potential in the five hamlets of Nglaksanaan village, including Karangsari Hamlet, Doga Hamlet, Nglanggeran Kulon Hamlet, Nglanggeran Wetan Hamlet, and Gunung Butak.

Head of Kalurahan, Mr Widada, explained that Nglanggeran Village has just completed some clean water and plans to develop a Water Boom on village-owned land in Sarangsari Hamlet, with the hope that later it can increase people’s income. Meanwhile, Mr Mursidi, the Chairperson of the Nglanggeran Village Pokdarwis, explained that he is currently preparing the RIPPARDA plan as the main guideline for local governments in planning and controlling tourism development in the area, which is very important for growth and as a motivation for tourism development in Nglanggeran Village, which is expected to provide benefits. Economic and environmental benefits.
The development of infrastructure and facilities is expected from the ongoing assistance program from several CSR and Bank Indonesia, which can continue to be implemented. Telkomsel also offers the Nglanggeran Village digitization system as a continuation of the pilot project in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. Development must be managed with solid management. Digital is a tool to maintain accountability so that the condition of the village environment becomes more conducive. With the making of a video from the DIY Provincial Spatial Planning Office, which is also being implemented, as other supporting facilities and infrastructure, such as road repairs, integrated parking lots, and other supporting facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, budget policies will also be formulated to develop the Gunungsewu geopark to support tourism in Nglanggeran Village.
Indecon Director Ari stated that the higher the development of the village, the greater the unity of its citizens because tourism planning is essential to encourage increased village income, inspire overall village management and promote the growth of other supporting sectors. Nglanggeran village tourism assets are not only natural tourism but also culture, which is not only in the form of art but also culture about daily life that can be used as real tourism potential. Tourism is an aspect that is included in everyday life of rural communities, which can have both positive and negative impacts.
The negative impacts of tourism are not only garbage, air pollution, excessive use of energy, and noise pollution, but the adverse socio-cultural effects are also an equally important concern. Cultures over-commercialized towards exploitation for tourism, regardless of what is good and evil, will lead to a shift in lifestyle in the village. The cultural consequences can lead to changes in the relationship between families or citizens, possibly beyond existing conditions. Pak Ari stated, “Tourism development is good, but it must be managed well together. This is where the Pokdarwis task is to create a conducive tourist village atmosphere.” Harmony can create conducive conditions; Pak Ari also added that “Many external factors are beyond the ability of local governments to overcome conditions such as the COVID outbreak, terrorist threats, and climate change, so it is necessary to anticipate early if tourism wants to continue, villages have advantages with the characteristics of rural communities who like to work together, are tolerant, this can be a force to protect the environment in a friendly manner and regenerate in management so that the younger generation continues planning before generation, if the human resources are good, the regeneration will also be good”.
Three principles that need to be considered in the development of tourism, there needs to be a balance between economic, social and environmental objectives. Nglanggeran Village already has a certificate and is sustainable with good value in nature conservation; community involvement not in the tourism sector must also be increased. In the Pokdarwi network, it is necessary to synergize with district and provincial governments to achieve targets. New decrees to formulate and implement village policies, such as issues regarding zones, building regulations, and accountability in processes, programs and procedures. as well as the preparation of tour packages, the plan of annual tourism events that need to be arranged for events in rotation to all newly developed tourism potential hamlets.
